Dr, Ajit (BAMS, PCAS) is an ‘Ayurvedacharya,” a graduate of the Government Ayurvedic Medical College, University of Patiala, in North India. In India, Dr. Ajit worked in general practice and as a ’Panchakarma’ Specialist, was a lecturer at several Ayurveda Colleges and was also a permanent employee of the Government of India as an Ayurvedic Medical Officer, spanning 20 years.
In 1996, Dr. Ajit relocated from India to New Zealand with a dream to teach and spread authentic Ayurveda in the western world. He is now the most experienced Ayurvedic Clinician in Australasia and a leader in the field of Ayurveda outside of India, where he has campaigned tirelessly in an effort to create high standards in the learning of Ayurveda,
He is now Director of:
- Planet Ayurveda a wellness and spa centre in Auckland, where Ayurvedic wellness packages, consultations and Panchakarma programs are offered under his guidance;
- Australasian Institute of Ayurvedic Studies;
- Ayurda, an Ayurvedic professional beauty care range developed by Dr. Ajit and Rippan Sandhu.
- Vaidya, an Ayurvedic clinical diagnosis software program for students and practitioners.
Dr. Ajit is currently CEO of the International Council of Ayurvedic Medicine Inc., an organization established to standardize and streamline the educational, teaching and regulatory standards for Ayurvedic practice in the world outside of India. He was also founding Patron of the Australasian Ayurvedic Practitioners Association (AAPA) and past and founding president of Australasian Ayurvedic Practitioners Association (New Zealand), both professional bodies for Ayurvedic Practitioners,
He has been instrumental in raising the profile of Ayurveda in Australasia, not only through his teaching and practice, but through his numerous speaking engagements, media work and meetings with Government officials, His efforts have been recognised with a number of awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Zealand Charter of Health Professionals, the Indian Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM) for his contribution in promoting Ayurveda in the West and the Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman from the NRI Welfare Society of India.
Richard has a long standing interest in complementary medicine and Vedic Philosophy. At a young age he trained as an Acupuncturist and Herbalist. He also began practising yoga and is now the Director of the Ashtanga Yoga Shala in Brisbane.
He has also been closely associated with AIAS since its establishment by Dr. Ajit in 1999.
He is passionate about Ayurveda and its principles and is a strong advocate of the benefits of both Yoga and Ayurveda.
Coming to the Institute from the corporate training industry, Kay is committed to the delivery of quality education to help students achieve their learning outcomes and professional goals.
Kay is also a graduate of the Institute so understands the challenges faced by students so is working to improve the Institute’s administrative and student support services.
A transforming trip to India in the early 1990’s sparked his interest in Vedic philosophy, particularly Yoga & Ayurveda. A yoga practitioner for 15 years and teacher for last 5 years, he is also a graduate of the certificate level 5 in Clinical Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consulting.
