The Certificate IV in Small Business Management is a basic qualification which reflects the role of successful small business owners and managers. The course provides you with the skills and knowledge required to operate a small business. You will develop the skills required to analyse business opportunities, and get an overview of core business concepts including legal requirements, finance, marketing and leadership.
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of small business contexts. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others, and have responsibility for the output of others.
Graduates from this course will receive the skills necessary to establish and operate their own small business. It is also suitable for supervisors or middle management staff in existing small business operations who want to develop their skills in business planning, occupational health, financial planning and marketing.
After achieving this qualification candidates may also undertake further study through BSB51915: Diploma of Leadership and Management.
Students need to have completed year 12 or equivalent with a sound achievement in English or an English level of IELTS 5.5.
Candidates may also enter the qualification through a number of entry points demonstrating potential to undertake vocational education and training at certificate level, including:
- personal or vocational experience in a specific industry
- vocational experience in a specific industry and an industry specific qualification.
Requirements to receive the above qualification
This qualification requires the successful completion of 10 units of Competency.

4 core units plus
6 elective units.
For partial completion of the course a Statement of Attainment will be awarded listing all of the units you have achieved competency in.
The 6 elective units have been selected by Australasian Institute of Ayurvedic Studies Pty Ltd, to enhance employment prospects of students and meet the local industry requirements.
Full time with 24 teaching weeks (20 hours teaching per week) plus 3 weeks holidays.
Total duration 27 weeks.
This course is offered in a full-time mode. The course is delivered face-to-face in a simulated workplace environment. Students attend 20 hours of class per week, which are a mix of theory and practical applications.
